Who We Serve
Very often, under-insured individuals have avoided getting treatment that they need for years because of the costs involved. We are here to help!
The CCFHCC follows a Volunteer in Medicine (VIM) model that uses the time, talent, and energy of numerous active and retired medical, dental, and non-clinical individuals to provide care and services to our patients.
Free Health Care Center Saved My Life
But like many Pittsburghers who struggle to make ends meet, Lyvonne is uninsured. She doesn’t qualify for Medicaid or significant subsidies, yet she cannot afford to buy her own health insurance.
Lyvonne’s medication quickly ran out, and on the recommendation of a coworker, she called Catholic Charities Free Health Care Center. “I was very impressed that they got me in the very next day after I called,” says Lyvonne.
But at her first visit to the FHCC, Lyvonne had another shock. The volunteer physician couldn’t detect a pulse in her right leg, and fearing the worst, ordered her back to the emergency room just in time, for as soon as she arrived, Lyvonne suffered a life-threatening pulmonary embolism.
Once she was discharged, Lyvonne was relieved to have found a source of free care, and returned to the Free Health Care Center for her ongoing treatment.
Warmest thanks to all the donors who have made it possible to save Lyvonne’s life.
